THE Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry is to investigate three more state-run institutions in Northern Ireland.

Former homes at Fort James and Harberton House are to be examined along with Hydebank Wood Young Offenders’ Centre near Belvoir in south Belfast.

There will also be a separate examination of the activities of paedophile priest Brendan Smyth.

The inquiry has investigating 13 institutions to date.

The HIA inquiry was set up in 2013 to investigate child abuse in residential institutions in Northern Ireland over a 73-year period, up to 1995.

It is chaired by former High Court judge Sir Anthony Hart QC.

Also on the panel is David Lane and Geraldine Cormack.
