OFFICER from the PSNI Reactive and Organised Crime Branch arrested a further person as part of an international investigation into ‘skunk’ cannabis supply from Italy.
The 32 year old woman was arrested in the Donegall Road area this morning and is being interviewed at a city centre police station.
Police estimate up to £1 million worth of ‘skunk’ cannabis has been sent by Chinese Triads from Asia through Italy and into Northern Ireland.
She has also been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis at Newry on 1 April this year when cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £275,000 were discovered at a house at Mullaghbawn Road.
Detective Inspector Andy Dunlop said: “This investigation will continue for some time. Our enquiries are extensive.
“We are working hard to ensure that we bring to justice all those allegedly involved in this criminal drugs trafficking enterprise.”
This is the 14th person arrested in connection with this investigation, nine of whom have been charged.
