BOMB ALERT AT PRIMARY SCHOOL A ‘HOAX’

BOMB SQUADHUNDREDS of schoolchildren have been sent home for the day after their school was evacuated following a bomb warning.

Pond Park Primary school in Lisburn, Co Antrim got the call just after 9 am this morning.

Pupils were initially kept inside the building while an external search was carried out.

Staff and pupils were later moved to LaurelHill Community college while the security operation continued.

Army Technical Officers attended the scene and following an examination declared the alert a “hoax”.

Chief Inspector Derek McCamley said: “Officers responded to a call from the school who reported that they had received a call claiming a device was left there.

“Police and school staff agreed that the children should be kept inside while an external search was completed. That has been done and ATO say it was a hoax.”

The 600 pupils will return to school tomorrow.
