DETECTIVES are linking loyalist paramilitaries to a gun attack on the northern outskirts of Belfast.

A woman was shot in the legs after two men forced their way into her home last night.

The 47-year-old woman and two men were in a flat at Ballyronan Park in Rathcoole, Newtownabbey, around 7.45 pm when the masked men stormed the property.

The woman fled from the flat but was shot in both legs outside. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 40-year-old man was also assaulted, sustaining minor injuries.

A number of windows were smashed and the door of the property was also broken.
