RELATIVE CHARGED OVER TRAVELLER WEDDING MURDER

Omagh magistrates courtA great nephew of Barney McGinley who was shot at a traveller wedding has faced a court charged with murder.

He was blasted to death outside a church in Newtownbutler, Co Fermangh on 11 February as two teenager travellers were about to get married.

His great nephew, Willie McGinley, was charged with the murder and also the attempted murder of the victim’s son.

The 26-year-old, from Lisfarrel, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, was remanded in custody.

His dad, Patrick ‘Toucher’ McGinley faced the same court two weeks ago charged with the same murder and remanded in custody.

Barney McGinley’s son, who is in his 30s, was shot and injured during the attack.

Appearing before Omagh Magistrates’ Court in County Tyrone, Willie McGinley spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges against him.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court again in Enniskillen on 16 March.
