TEEN SCHOOLGIRL SERIOUSLY ILL AFTER EAST BELFAST ACCIDENT

POLICE ACCIDENT 2A 30-year-old man is in police custody following an early morning accident in east Belfast.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury by careless driving on the Upper Newtownards Road.

He is currently being detained at Musgrave police station for questioning.

A 13-year-old girl was injured at around 8.40 pm near a local school after being struck by a car.

The teenage girl is currently in hospital in a serious condition following the collision.

The Upper Newtownards Road in east Belfast has now re-opened after it was closed for a while by the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene.

Inspector Barry Black has appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision which occurred at around 8.40am this morning to contact police at Strandtown on the 101 non-emergency number.

Seven people have died on Northern Ireland’s roads so far this year.
