ARMY Technical Officers have been tasked to the scene of a security alert in south Belfast.

According to the PSNI, it follows the discover of a suspicious object in Friendly Street in the Markets District close to Belfast City Centre.

A police spokesperson said: “Friendly Street has been closed.

“A number of homes have been evacuated.

“There are no further details at present.”
