MAN TO FACE COURT ON GUN AND EXPLOSIVE CHARGES

Laganside Court houseDETECTIVES have tonight charged a 52-year-old man with a number of terrorist-linked offences.

They related to the search of a house in west Belfast at the weekend.

CID officers and a specialist Tactical Support Group raided the house in Forest Street on Saturday night during an intelligence-led operation.

Army Techincal Officers were tasked to the scene to examine suspected pipe bomb components.

A number of residents were forced to leave their homes and were put up in Cavendish Hall for for their own safety.

After two hours, they were allowed to return to their home after the ATO declared the area safe.

Tonight, Monday, January 26, the middle aged man was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.

He was is accused of possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances.

The man is to face Belfast Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, for a first remand hearing.
