Punishment victim Edward Gibson died from gunshot wounds following an attack by the Official Republican Movement

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team have arrested a man over the murder of Edward Gibson in west Belfast last October.

A 61-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast this morning and is currently being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

A number of people have already been charged as part of the overall investigation.

Edward Gibson was shot in his stomach and thigh in an alley near Divis Tower on 24 October.

The 28-year-old died in the Royal Victoria Hospital hospital from his injuries.

It is claimed his killers had accused him of raping a woman – an allegation denied by his family and friends.

Police believe the murder was carried out the Official Republican Movement or ‘Supter Sticks’ – a breakaway group from the Official IRA.

The gun used in the murder has never been recovered.
