THREE men have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of Matthew Goddard over the Christmas holidays in east Belfast.

The 41-year-old was found dead in his house at Chobham Street around 9.40 pm on Christmas Eve.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team said he had brutally assaulted and beaten with his electric guitar.

William Robert Turner, 35, of Glenlea Grove; James Henry Turner, 29, of Dunraven Court, Belfast, and Christian Walker, 25, of Ribble Street, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

The Turner brothers were also charged with grievous bodily harm over a separate incident at a pub in east Belfast on December 23.

A MIT detective constable said he believed he could connect the accused to the charges.

The men were remanded in custody to Maghaberry Prison to appear again at the magistrates’ court on Thursday, January 15.
