Craigavon-based contractor JMC Mechanical and Construction Ltd has been awarded a £28m contract to provide full maintenance services to four Northern Ireland housing associations.

The deal will see the firm service 4,600 homes managed by Clanmil Housing Association; Connswater Homes; Abbeyfield and Wesley; and Hearth and follows the housing providers’ decision to leverage better value through a combined contract.

The move is designed to reduce costs, improve efficiency and ensure tenants receive a first class service that keeps their homes in excellent condition.

The contract will see JMC provide a responsive maintenance service covering all building, mechanical and electrical works.  A social clause in the contract will also create a range of apprenticeships, training and work experience opportunities.

On behalf of the partnership, Clare McCarty, Chief Executive of Clanmil Housing said:

“We are delighted to welcome JMC to the team and look forward to working with them to provide a great maintenance service for people living in Clanmil homes and in those of our partner associations.

“This contract is a great example of the enhanced customer service that housing associations in Northern Ireland can provide by working in partnership together.

“It’s really important to us all that our tenants are happy with the maintenance service we provide and the customer focused service that JMC offers means that tenants will be given a two hour slot on a specific day when their repair will be completed.

“We were also keen that the contract should have a wider positive impact and have negotiated the inclusion of social clauses that guarantee apprenticeship and training programmes to help young people access employment in the construction industry.”

James McCully, Managing Director of JMC, said:

“We are all very pleased to have been awarded this contract. As well as helping to ensure our company’s long term stability, it will give us the opportunity to support local suppliers and local businesses and help tackle national problems such as youth unemployment.

“We believe regeneration starts at home and this contract will give us the opportunity to help regenerate local communities. We provide local jobs, use local suppliers, support local social enterprises and fund apprenticeship and trainee places for local people.

“We have vast experience working within social housing in Northern Ireland and we hope to show that our company can deliver an excellent service with quality workmanship to ensure tenant satisfaction.”
