A death threat against Derry City Council staff has been lifted.

The council’s Community Safety Wardens were removed from their duties after a group calling itself the IRA issued the threat on Tuesday last.

The threat had been widely condemned.

It is understood the dissident group agreed to lift the threat following negotiations with community representatives.

As a result, a rally in support of the workers planned for Derry city centre this lunchtime will not take place.
