CANNABIS PLANTS SEIZED IN NORTH BELFAST

Castlederg cannabis factoryCANNABIS plants with a street value of around £7,000 have been seized in north Belfast.

It followed a planned police operation yesterday at a house in the Lower Shankill area of North Belfast when 14 cannabis plants were seized.

Further examination uncovered the abstraction of electricity via a bypassed meter.

A person in their 20s is presently helping police with their enquiries.

Police are advising the public to look out for the tell-tale signs of commercial cannabis cultivation in their area?

1. A strong and sickly sweet smell,
2. Cannabis growing equipment being taken into a house – fans, pots, lights etc,
3. Constantly covered or blocked off windows,
4. Unsociable coming and going at all hours or neighbours you never see,
5. Strong and constant lighting day and night,
6. High levels of heat and condensation,
7. Constant buzz of ventilation,
8. Excessive amount of cables.

Said a police spokesperson: “Cannabis factories of this kind can be extremely dangerous and unstable due to their poor construction i.e. bypassed meters and high risk of fire and other health hazards associated with cannabis plants.
