ELDERLY WOMAN DIES IN HOUSE FIRE

FIRE-SERVICE donegalA 73-year-old woman has tragically died following what is believed to have been an accidental fire.

It happened at a property in Lurgan Tarry, Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Chief Inspector Paul Reid said: “We received a report of a fire at a house in Lurgan Tarry at around midday on Monday 27th October.

“Emergency Services attended but unfortunately a 73-year-old woman was found deceased at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this time. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 11.50 pm last night to attend a house fire in a two storey mid terrace property at Lurgan Tarry.

“Two appliances from Lurgan Fire Station and one appliance from Portadown Fire Station attended the incident.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly entered the property and found a lady in her seventies in the living room. Sadly the lady was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Firefighters dealt with a small fire in the living room. Early indications would suggest the fire was accidental.

“The smoke alarms in the property had activated and alerted care workers arriving at the property and they raised the alarm.

“The incident was dealt with at 2.16 pom,” added the spokesperson.
