THIEVES ROB 91-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN HER OWN HOME

Police car collectPOLICE in north Belfast are appealing for information following the report of a burglary in the Whitewell Road area of Newtownabbey last Thursday.

It is reported that at approximately 9.50pm, a number of unknown persons entered the home of a 91 year old woman and ransacked the upstairs area.

The woman, who was situated downstairs, was then approached by someone and asked to hand over her purse before making off with a sum of money taken from the purse.

It is unknown at this stage if anything else was taken from the house. Entry had been gained by removing the pane of a rear window.

Speaking of the incident, Constable Michael Burns, Tennent Street Response, said: “Most people will feel appalled when they read of this terrible crime against a vulnerable member of this local community and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police at Tennent Street station on the non-emergency number, 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111”, he said.
