MAN ASSAULTED WITH HAMMER IN SOUTH BELFAST

musgrave psniDETECTIVES in south Belfast are investigating an incident at a house in the Cooke Street area yesterday morning.

Detective Inspector Mark McHaffie explains: “Police received a report that a man in his 40’s had been assaulted by three males who had called to the door of his house at around 11.40am on Saturday morning.

“The men forced their way into the house continuing to assault the occupant using a hammer and causing damage to the property.

Following the assault, the assailants are believed to have made off on foot in the direction of River Terrace. The householder was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

“One of the suspects was described as being around 30 years old, of stocky build and was wearing a black woollen hat and grey Nike track top.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish a motive for the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in or around the Cooke Street area at the time of the incident or anyone with any information to contact detectives at CID in Musgrave on 101.

“Information can also be passed through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
