MEN HUNTED OVER SHANKILL SHOP ROBBERY

Psni newtownabbeyDETECTIVES in North Belfast are appealing for information after a report of an armed robbery at business premises at the Ainsworth Avenue area last night (Tuesday 7th October).

Chief Inspector Bobby Singleton said: “Shortly after 8:50pm, it was reported to police that two males entered a shop in the area with one man armed with a hammer.

“It is believed that a member of staff was pushed out of the way during the incident, but was not injured.

“It is believed the males made off from the shop with a sum of money and a till in a white Citroen Saxo towards the Springfield Road area. Two other males are also believed to have been in the car.

“The white Citroen Saxo was found set alight at the Roumania Rise, West Belfast area at around 9:30pm.

“Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and the car was completely destroyed.

“The stolen till was later recovered in the area of the Dunville Street area, West Belfast at around 00:50am. Enquiries are continuing.

“Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or has information in relation to it to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
