DETECTIVES have arrested a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The arrest was made after a woman was seriously assaulted in Newry, Co Down.

Police said the woman was attacked in Mourne View Park on Monday afternoon.

Local police comander Ch Insp Davy Beck said: “The woman has been taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

“The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries,” he added.

The man is currently being held at Ardmore PSNI station.
