POLICE have named the cyclist who died following a collision with as John Paul McKevitt.

The 34-year-old, who was from the Newry area, died in hospital from his injuries.

He was cycling along the A1 carriageway outside the city on Thursday around 10.30 am when the accident happened.

A 35-year-old man was arrested after the crash and taken to Ardmore PSNI station for questioning.

He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
