Police at Woodbourne station arrest two over shop thefts

POLICE in west Belfast have arrested two people after a tip off from a hawk-eyed member of staff.

A 25-year-old female was held on suspicion of theft and using a motor vehicle without insurance and a 27 year old male on suspicion of theft.

They were arrested following the report that three unknown males had entered commercial premises in the Donegall Road area and made off with a number of clothing items before getting into a blue Ford Fiesta car which was driven off by an unknown female.

Speaking of the arrests, Inspector Alan Swann, Woodbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Information provided by a member of the public enabled Police to quickly follow up on that information which has resulted in these two arrests.

“I want to offer my thanks to that person and also ask that if anyone witnessed this incident which occurred on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 5.35pm, or can provide any assistance to the Police, to contact officers at Woodbourne Station by telephoning the non-emergency number, 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111”, he said.

The man and woman have been released pending further inquiries.
