THE Northern Ireland Amublance Service say up to 40 people  have been treated for the effects of drink and drugs.

Five were taken to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald and four taken to the Mater Hospital in north Belfast.

A doctor was at the scene after scores of people presented themselves at the SOS Charity bus at the Odyssey.

John McPoland of the NIAS said: “A number of those who presented themselves to the SOS bus were suffering from the effects of drugs.”

At least one gave the appearance of being unconscious.

A major incident was declared at the Ulster, Royal and Mater Hospitals with extra doctors and consultants drafted in to cope with the situation.

It is understood some of those had tried to get access to the Odyssey but were refused because they were “pre-loaded” with drink.
