FORMER DUP leader Ian Paisley has been released from hospital.

The former First Minister was taken into the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald three days after Christmas for “necessary tests”, said his family.

The 87-year-old was discharged from the east Belfast on Wednesday.

In February 2012, the former moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Ulster Hospital after suffering problems.

The first of a two-part documentary charting his life was screened on BBC1 Northern Ireland on Monday night this week.

The second part will be screened this Monday, January 20.
