Couple quizzed at Strand Road police station over armed chemist shop robbery

A MAN and a woman have been arrested following an armed robbery at a chemist shop.

According to police, a man and a woman armed with knives, entered the pharmacy in Great James Street, Derry shortly before 5.25 pm.

They threatened staff and made off with a quantity of prescription drugs.

Shortly afterwards, a man (41) and a woman (40) were arrested by police in Westland Street in the Bogside area of the city.

A quantity of prescription drugs and knives were recovered.

A PSNI spokesperson said the couple were assisting police with their inquiries at Strand Road police station.

No one was injured in the incident although it is believed staff were left badly shaken by their ordeal.
