DETECTIVES are questioning two men after a firearm was produced during a fight in the early hours of New Year’s morning.

The incident happened in the Drumbeg Mews area of Lisburn shortly after 2.20 am, say the PSNI.

A man punched another man in the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning and following that incident the victim of the attack produced a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the other man and a woman.

The PSNI say the armed man then fled fled towards the Belvoir estate in east Belfast in what a spokesperson described as “an old style silver Ford Fiesta Flight”.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, were arrested after police stopped the car in the Tullycarnet area shortly before 4.20am.

“A suspected firearm was recovered at the scene,” said a PSNI spokesman.

“The men were detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

“Both men are currently helping police with their enquiries.”
