According to locals, dissident terrorists raked Lisnaskea PSNI station in Co Fermanagh with a hail of automatic gunfire.
At this stage there are no reports of injuries.
Alliance Party leader and Justice Minister David Ford MLA posted a tweet on Twitter stating: “Those who tried to kill police officers in Lisnaskea are to be condemned.
“They have nothing positive to offer.”
The PSNI has yet to make any comment about the attack.
However, other police bodies have confirmed an attack took place.
On its Twitter page, the union which represents rank and file officers, the Police Federation posted a tweet saying: “Officers escape death when dissident republicans attack Lisnaskea station with gunfire.
“Cowardly and futile. Terrorism will never prevail.”
The attack is the latest in a long line of incidents which have been carried out by dissident groupings in recent weeks across Northern Ireland.
