DCI Una Jennings makes an appeal for information about the murders in east Belfast

DETECTIVES investigating the double murder a couple in in east Belfast have been granted another 36 hours a suspect.

The 32-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast on Thursday.

It is the second time a court has granted police have been given to question the man.

The bodies of Finbarr McGrillen, 42, and Caron Smyth, 40, were found by police investigating a suspected break-in at Ravenhill Court on 13 December.

A 33-year-old man appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with their murders.

Shaun Hegarty, from Grainne House, in the New Lodge district of north Belfast, was remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison.

He is the former boyfriend of Ms Smyth.

The senior officer heading up the murder inquiry, Det Chief Inspector Una Jennings, has appealed for information from the public over the murders.
