DETECTIVES have charged a man with murdering a couple in east Belfast last week.

The 33-year-old will appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning from Musgrave Street PSNI station where he has been held since last Saturday.

The bodies of 42-year-old Finbar McGrillen and Caron Smyth (40) were discovered in a flat at Ravenhill Court last Friday.

It is believed the suspect is the former lover of Ms Smyth who hails from Drumaness, in Co Down.

While the man appears in the dock of the court, murdersquad detectives will revisit the scene of the killings off the Ravenhill Road.

DCI Una Jennings, who is heading up the murder probe, has issued a fresh appeal for information.

She wants anyone who who noticed individuals or vehicles in the area between 3.30 am and 7.30 am last Thursday before the bodies were discovered to contact them.
