RUSH hour traffic is back to normal following a security alert near Belfast City Hall.

A suspicious object found has now been declared an elaborate hoax, say the PSNI.

Army technical officers were tasked to examine the object found at Donegall Square West, on Tuesday morning.

As a result police closed Upper Queen Street and Donegall Square West to both traffic and pedestrians during the alert.

Police have now cleared the area and re-opened all roads.

An investigation is underway to try and find out who was behind the elaborate hoax device.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch will be examining CCTV footage in the area in an attempt to track those left it.
