Detectives in Newtownards CID appeal for information over arson attack on Chinese restaurant

DETECTIVES are investigating the arson attack on a Chinese restaurant in Co Down.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, police were contacted about a fire at Wongs Restaurant at Harbour Road, Portavogie.

It was the fifth attack this year on the restaurant.

The PSNI said: “This fire was lit deliberately and three people were in the premises at the time.

“Thankfully they were alerted by a smoke alarm and managed to get out of the premises.

“People could very easily have lost their lives in this fire and detectives at Newtownards are treating the matter as attempted murder. ‘
