DETECTIVES investigating loyalist protests have charged a man with placing a hoax device outside the Alliance Party offices in east Belfast earlier this month.

Police were forced close roads near the office following the discovery of the hoax device on Tuesday, October 8.

Army technical officers spent several hours at the scene before declaring the object a hoax.

The building is the main officer the party’s east Belfast MP Naomi Long.

The PSNI said the 33-year-old man was arrested by detectives from the Op Titan Investigation Team.

Operation Titan was set up to investigate the rioting which erupted following an Orange Order parade in north Belfast on July 12.

The man has been formally charged with placing a hoax device and intimidation.

The suspect is due to face Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning, November 16.
