THE former SDLP MP for south Down Eddie McGrady has died. He was aged 78.

Mr McGrady, a trained chartered accountant, who won the seat in 1987 from the Ulster Unionst Party’s Enoch Powell, had been ill for some time.

He died on Monday in the Down Hospital surrounded by his family.
