Man remanded in custody accused of raping a woman at a house party

A MAN has faced a court charged with raping a woman at a weekend party.

David Parry appeared in the dock also charged with sexual assault and possessing a knife with intent to commit an assault in Bangor, Co Down.

The 24-year-old has no fixed address, the court heard.

A police officer told Newtownards Magistrates’ Court that he believed he could connect Parry to the charges.

He also opposed bail.

A defence lawyer said Parry denied the charges claimed the sex had been consensual.

The officer added that after the alleged offences had taken place the defendant left the party and went home, where he armed himself with a knife.

The police later stopped him in his vehicle and the knife was found in the glove compartment.

His defence barrister said family members of the defendant in England had offered to act as sureties.

He added that the accused was also willing to follow stringent bail conditions.

Bail was refused and the district judge remanded him into custody.
