Detectives in Newry hunt teen burglars who assaulted a priest and stole cash

DETECTIVES are hunting teenage burglars who assaulted a priest and then locked him in the bathroom of his parochial house.

The terrifying ordeal happened on Wednesday morning, October 30, in the south Armagh village of Jonesboro (Jonesborough).

Police say the priest disturbed three youths in the office of his parochial house.

They assaulted him and and forced the priest into the bathroom and locked him inside.

The victim managed to escape by climbing out the window before raising the alarm.

He was treated in Daisy Hill hospital in Newry, Co Down for a number of facial injuries.

An investigation revealed that the burglars had fled with a small amount of money.

Detectives at Ardmore CID in Newry have appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact them 0845 600 8000.
