POLICE have declared a security alert at the High Court in Belfast was a false alarm.

The building in Chichester Street, which also houses the Court of Appeal, was evacuated for a time while a package addressed to a member of staff was examined.

However, following an examination the security forces declared harmless.

The PSNI has been on high alert since last Friday after dissident republicans sent four letter bombs through the postal system.
