Homes were evacuated in Derry and trains were disrupted hoax bomb calls by dissident republican groups.

Two suspicious objects were found in Lake Street, Lurgan, close to the railway line early on on Saturday morning.

Train services through the town were affected and passengers were switched to buses until the alert was cleared.

Both objects were later declared elaborate hoaxes.

In Derry, police evacuated a number of homes following separate alerts in the city at Mimosa Court and Strabane Old Road following controlled explosions.

Following examinations by Army technical officers, both of them were also hoaxes.

Politicians across the board have condemned the hoax alerts.

DUP deputy mayor of Derry Gary Middleton said people were annoyed that they had been put of our their homes.

“We have been told that a device has been left at an elderly person’s home so the motivation for this is very, very unclear,” he said.
