David Jeffrey is a happy man after his team beat Glentoran 4-2 on penalties

GLENTORAN were knocked out of the League Cup after a penalty shoot out with Linfield on Tuesday night.

The game at the Oval ended scoreless after extra time with Michael Clarke sent off for the Glens on 60 minutes.

The Blues ran out 4-2 winners from the penalty spot, adding further woe to Eddie Patterson’s season at Glentoran.

But things are looking up for Linfield boss David Jeffrey.

After a poor start, he has seen his team’s performances rise up a notch in recent weeks, particularly with the arrival from the injury table of Andy Waterworth.

Cliftonville thumped Dundela 5-0 at Solitude just a few days after their shocking 2-0 defeat at the hands of Glentoran.

Joe ‘The Goal’ Gormley got a hat trick – the second of the evening in the League Cup.

Murray got a hat trick in Portadown’s thrashing of Lisburn Distillery at Shamrock Park.

Crusaders needed to three goals in extra time to beat Coleraine after it finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Lowly Ards knocked out Dungannon Swifts 4-3 on penalties after the match was level at 1-1.

And Ballymena got back to winning ways with a revenge 3-0 home win over Ballinamallard.
