Belfast City Council launches spooky Metro monster mash this Hallowe’en

Hallowe`en is coming on and the ghouls are getting ready to celebrate with a ‘spookily’ good Metro Monster Mash in Belfast on Sunday, October 27.

For the first time ever, the hair-raising fun activities and spooky happenings are taking place at The Slipways at Titanic Belfast and everyone is invited along for a thrilling time.

Beginning at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon, all sorts of creepy goings-on are guaranteed to chill the sturdiest of souls.

Young and old will be enthralled by the walk-about entertainers, street theatre shows, wacky workshops, face-painters and breath-taking fire shows. Brilliant prizes are also up for grabs for the most ghoulish of costumes in the ‘Best Dressed’ competition.

Citybeat will be boosting the party mood with its radio roadshow throughout the afternoon and the event will feature live music from Conor Scott who appeared in BBC One’s ‘The Voice’ programme and local band Freefall.

The skies will be also be lighting up with a spooktacular fireworks display – one of the biggest in Northern Ireland – to keep the crowds mesmerised.

The annual spectacle is organised by Belfast City Council and sponsored by Translink Metro with the support of Citybeat Radio.

Launching the event at The Slipways, the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Máirtin Ó Muilleoir, said: “The Metro Monster Mash is one of the highlights of our events calendar and will offer a fantastic feast for the senses and for all ages – with all this spooky fun for free.

“The 2.30pm start of the event is good for everyone – families can enjoy a fun-filled day out and get the kids to bed at a normal time while the 6.30pm end is the beginning of the evening for others wanting to go on to other Hallowe`en celebrations elsewhere in the city.

“I’m delighted that we have got a fantastic range of activities planned this year on The Slipways with live music also from local band Freefall and Conor Scott performing and keeping the crowds entertained.”

Event sponsor Translink Metro will be operating a free ghost shuttle bus service to and from the venue departing from the city centre at regular intervals.

Roy Sloan, Translink Metro Service Delivery Manager, said: “The Metro Monster Mash is lining-up to be another fantastic family event with plenty of thrills and surprises to get everyone in the mood for Halloween. We’re encouraging anyone travelling to The Slipways to take advantage of our free Metro shuttle bus service from the city centre for a hassle-free way to reach all the action!”

Citybeat Breakfast presenter Stephen Clements said: ‘Citybeat are delighted to be involved in this year’s Metro Monster Mash. The Slipways provides a fantastic backdrop to what will be a fun filled family event with Sara and I, cumulating in Belfast’s biggest firework display!’
