Police at the scene of a shooting in west Belfast on Monday evening

DETECTIVES are investigating after man was been been shot in both legs in west Belfast on Monday evening.

The suspected dissident republican shooting happened around 8.20 om Iris Court just off Springfield Avenue.

The victim, who is believed in his early 20s, was rushed by paramedics to the nearby Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

His condition is described as stable.

Serious Crime Branch officers are carrying out a forensic search at the scene.
