PINK LADIES RUN FOR CANCER CHARITY

Pink ladies run for cancerTHE people of Derry are being urged to come out and take part in a fundraising event in aid of the “Pink Ladies,” the local cancer support group.

The group has organised a 5k run and 2k walk for Sunday, October 20 and is encouraging people to register as soon as possible.

The group was initially set up in May 2005 to provide a range of services and activities for women with breast cancer.

However, they now provide these services to anyone who has experienced or been affected by cancer including men, young people and children.

The group work in collaboration with various community groups, cancer charities and staff at Altnagelvin Hospital.

They are also proactive in organising and delivering increased services and programmes locally, providing breast, testicular, prostrate and bowel cancer awareness sessions.

Karen Mullan, of the “Pink Ladies” said all funds raised from a fundraising effort being held next month would help in the continuation of the above services.

The 10k run will leave Sainsbury’s car park at Meadowbank at 11.00 am with walk departing 15 minutes later, both events finishing at Ebrington Square where entertainment will be provide.

Everyone taking part will receive a tee-shirt and a goodie bag.

Registration vnues are – Rathmor Centre (14-15 October), Richmond Centre (18-19 October), TK Maxx (18 October), Sainsburys (19 October).

Dates for to register at Quayside Shopping Centre and Northside Shopping Centre will be confirmed at a later date.
