THE shortlists have been revealed for this year’s Ulster Tatler People of the Year Awards.

And in a very unique twist of fate, Northern Ireland’s ‘Godfather of Punk’ Terri Hooley will compete head to head with himself in one of the ceremony’s prestigious categories.

The Arts Personality of the Year award will see Terri, founder of the Good Vibrations music store and record label in Belfast, up against his silver screen self – actor Richard Dormer who has been shortlisted for the same award on the back of his outstanding performance in playing music supremo Hooley in the film biopic Good Vibrations.

Also in the running for the same award are renowned local artist Terry Bradley and author Lucy Caldwell and all will be revealed on the star-studded night at Belfast City Hall on Thursday, September 19.

The glitzy evening, which celebrates the people who have lit up the pages of the Ulster Tatler for more than 40 years, will also see The Fall star Jamie Dornan, local television presenter and journalist Jackie Fullerton, The Apprentice winner Leah Totton and The Voice winner Andrea Begley all competing for the Celebrity of the Year.

On the sporting front Cliftonville manager Tommy Breslin, golfer Graeme McDowell, Paralympic Gold Medal winner Michael McKillop and Ulster Rugby player Ruan Pienaar will take each other on for the Sportsperson of the Year.

This is the sixth year of the People of the Year Awards which promises to be bigger and better than before.

The awards comprise of 12 individual categories relating to life and lifestyles in Northern Ireland, from fashion to interior design, hairdressing to hospitality, and from business to sport – not to mention the celebrated Lifetime Achievement Award which is a closely guarded secret until the winner is revealed on the night.

Shortlists in each category have been compiled from votes cast by members of the public and judging panels of media and industry experts will select the winners which will be announced at the glamorous event.

“It is great to see both Terri Hooley and Richard Dormer nominated in the same category this year, especially as at one stage they have ultimately been the same person. Now, myself and my Ulster Tatler colleagues, our category sponsors and our friends in the media have the difficult job of selecting the winners throughout the categories.” said Chris Sherry, editor of Ulster Tatler.

Speaking of his nomination Terri Hooley said, “I’m delighted to be shortlisted for an Ulster Tatler award and honoured to be alongside Richard Dormer in the same category.

“His outstanding performance in the film made me look good. I suppose you could say that it’s a win win situation for me if either of us lift the award on the night!”
