Army technical officers and police at the scene of a suspect car in Co Tyrone

THE PSNI are at the scene of an ongoing security alert.

It follows the discovery of what police describe as a suspicious vehicle which is being linked to dissident republican activity.

As a result, the Drum Road in Cookstown, Co Tyrone has been closed since the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The suspicious vehicle has been examined by the PSNI and Army Technical Officers.

It is not yet known if anything has been found in the vehicle.

As part of the security operation, police have carried out a number of searches linked to the vehicle and dissident republican activity.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area until the security operation is cleared.
