A MAN beaten in a vicious paramilitary-style attack remains in a serious condition in Altnagelvin hospital where he is being treated for a brain injury.

The victim of the incident was held at shotgun point by one masked man while three others beat him with hammers in the incident just outside Rathmullan, Co Donegal on Thursday night.

Gardai detectives investigating the incident fear a vigilant gang was behind the brutal attack.

They are liaising with the PSNI at Strand Road in Derry about the attack.

“The man who was attacked has suffered horrendous injuries,” said one source.

“His head is swollen and doctors fear he may have suffered brain injuries as a result of the incident.”

The man is still being treated in the intensive care unit at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
