Gorse fire being tackled on one of the Mourne Mountains

FIRE CREWS are tackling a gorse on top of one of the Mourne Mountains in Co Down.

The gorse fire on Shanlieve was reported at 11.25 am on Thursday.

Four appliances are at the scene.

Fire chiefs tasks two tenders from Kilkeel, one from Warrenpoint, and one from Rathfriland.

A Fire Service spokesperson said: “There is a fire front of 2-3 square kilometers and the incident is ongoing.”

It is not clear if the fire was started deliberately or has been caused by the intense summer heatwave.
