A NORTHERN IrelandĀ man is in Garda custody in Donegal following the hijacking of a car.

Two female friends were arrested by the PSNIĀ in connection with the same incident on Friday night in Derry.

A woman was forced from her car at knifepoint around 10.15pm.

The silver Ford Fiesta later crashed in County Donegal between Muff and Quigley’s Point.

Two female passengers were taken to Altnagelvin for treatment and were arrested on their discharge in the early hours of this morning.

The car’s driver was arrested by Gardai and is in custody in Letterkenny where he is being questioned today.

The incident comes as Gardai step up patrols along the Border following a spate of break-ins and robberies in Lifford, Raphoe and Newtowncunningham.

It’s understood Gardai were on the scene of last night’s incident within minutes.
