Police hunt carjackers in east Belfast

DETECTIVES are hunting two men who were involved in a hijacking, attempted hijacking and a mugging in the space of 15 minutes in east Belfast on Monday morning.

The men, described as being in their 20s, tried to get into a woman’s car at Jocelyn Avenue, off the Woodstock Road, around 10.15am.

They failed in their attempt to steal the vehicle and made off along Woodstock Road, attempting to steal a handbag from a woman close to the Credit Union building.

However, a relative assisted her and the men ran off, chased by members of the public.

A police spokesperson said: “The woman sustained injuries to her head, neck and left arm and was taken to hospital for a check-up.”

Minutes later, a woman was pulled from her red Ford Focus at Isthmus Street by two men, who then drove off in it.

It has not yet been located, police confirmed.

The men are described as having local accents. One of them was wearing a black top and the other a grey tracksuit.
