DETECTIVES investigating a dissident republican murder plot on an off-duty PSNI officer last year released a man from custody.

Officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch arrested a 25-year-old man in the Antrim area on Monday over the discovery of a bomb under the family car of a police officer in east Belfast last December.

The PSNI officer, who was off duty at the time, was about to leave his Upper Newtownards Road home for lunch with his wife and two young children on Sunday, 30 December when the device was found.

The suspect was held at the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.

On Tuesday, police said the man had been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Last week, a woman was arrested in connection with the murder bid but was later released without charge.
