Police arrest man over murder bid on PSNI officers in March

DETECTIVES investigating a murder bid on PSNI officers three months ago have arrested a man on Thursday morning.

The 39-year-old was detained in the Belfast area in a dawn raid by officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch as part of the investigation into the bomb attack at a Co Antrim towpath in March.

A device exploded on the Duncrue path close to Hazelbank on Saturday, March 9.

During the security alert, part of the M5 was closed part for almost 24 hours for fears of possible further devices.

Three officers, one of whom was a woman, were on the towpath when the bomb exploded.

Army technical officers discovered that the device had been partially detonated using a mobile phone.

Senior police chiefs said the attack was designed to kill police.

The suspect is currrently being held at the serious crim suite in Antrim for questioning.
