Police probing north Belfast murder bid on PSNI officers charge a woman over the attack

A 27-year-old woman is to face a court on Wednesday charged with the attempted murder of two police officers during a pipe bomb attack in Belfast.

Belfast Daily can reveal that Christine Connors – who was arrested last Wednesday – is charged with two counts of attempted murder.

She is further charged with possession of explosives with intent to endanger life and preparation of terrorist acts.

She is due at Belfast’s Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

The charge comes after two young constables had only seconds to dive for cover when pipe bombs were thrown at them in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, May 28 on the Crumlin Road.

Her mum Breige Connors was arrested last Sunday in north Belfast and taken to the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.

She was later released and a file on her is to be sent to the Public Prosecution Service.

A 25-year-old man was arrested in England last Saturday morning as part of th investigation by the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch.

He was detained in Shrewsbury by officers from West Mercia police and detectives from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

The suspect was handed over to the PSNI and flown back to Northern Ireland for questioning about who made the bogus 999 call which drew police into the area before the attack was launched.
