Police seal off part of Belfast city centre after reports of an armed man in a building

THE PSNI’S Armed Response Unit has been sent to Belfast City Centre following reports of an armed man in a building.

The man, believed to be carrying a gun, has been reported at a building in the Donegall Street area.

A cordon around Writers Square in Donegall Street has been lifted with no signs of the gunman.

Police have swamped the area and ARU which operates in the Greater Belfast area was tasked to support local PSNI units after an eyewitness tipped off the PSNI.

Talbot Street and Academy Street beside St Anne’s Cathedral have been sealed off.

The PSNI also employs skilled negotiators who could be used to talk the man to come out of the building of his own free accord.
