THE DUP has condemned an attack by stone throwing youths on a tour bus in west Belfast.

Five people were board the bus as it was travelling up the Springfield Road.

As it turned into Lanark Way shortly after 6pm, youths hurled missiles at its windows.

None of the tourists were injured in the incident, but that they were badly shaken by what had happened.

DUP MLA and local councillor William Humphrey said: “This was a reckless attack which will be condemned by all right-thinking people.

“It is a relief that no-one was hurt, but clearly the consequences of this attack could have been much more severe and it will have been shocking for the passengers and tourists on board.

“It is damaging to the reputation of the city to have a tourist bus attacked in this way, as well as being a senseless act of criminal vandalism.

Mr Humphrey also expressed concern that tensions could be increased in the area.

“I have asked the police to increase their presence in the vicinity and I would appeal to anyone who can assist the police to catch the perpetrators of this criminal attack to pass on whatever information they have,” he added.
